Hey! What's your hurry? On my daily commute from the Twin Cities Broadcast Center -- better known as FOX 9 -- to my home in St. Paul I often feel like my life is in danger.  I travel eastbound on 494, which has a posted speed limit of 60mph, but it seems I'm one of the few that pays attention to that.  I look in my rear view mirror and my knees start to shake when I see semis barreling toward me and SUV's traveling 85mph! It probably wouldn't be so scary if they didn't wait till the last second to change lanes...oh no, they have to do it within inches of my bumper!

Now, let me be very clear...I am no driving prude! I stay out of the left lane, occasionally I'm a little generous with the gas pedal, but come on people! Work with me here! On a serious note, we see first hand, on an almost weekly basis the deadly results of reckless driving.  Nothing...and I mean nothing...could be worth risking your life, to get to your destination a few minutes early.

I go through the same thing on my way to work every morning on I94 from Wisconsin to St. Paul. It's very scary. I have been rear ended twice. I feel as though going the speed limit can be just as dangerous as speeding because it makes the other drivers crazy. I've been hollared at, honked at and several finger gestures whipped my way. What is everyone in such a big hurry for? I drove in rush hour in Los Angeles 2 years ago and all the cars were spaced a decent length apart and moved along just fine, no weaving in and out of traffic (without using blinkers)or anything. I have heard that people in the Twin Cities are the worst drivers. I believe it!

The answer is quite simple, It is time and money!! Day care charges a penalty fee for every minute you are late, If you leave on time from work, your not a dedicated employee, and you can be replaced by an illegal for a lesser wage, the time you are stuck in traffic is about two dallars an hour in gas no matter what you drive. No matter what you do in Moneysota, Someone has a hand in you pocket taking money from you. That is just one reason why people are in such a hurry. the other reasons can be everything from just plain idiots to numbskulls who don't care about anyone else but themselves (see reason number one). So it's no wonder why we are the way we are, we created it, we pay it so the vicious circle comes around. all we need to do is not pay it and make the greedy ones work on the time that we choose, not thiers. We pay thier bills, we should have the power!
