My head is spinning from the recent glut of companies, big and small, rushing to jump onto the "green" bandwagon. They all seem to be tripping over each other to lay calm to being greener than the next. Just how green are they really? Or is this just another Madison Ave. image campaign devised to guilt us into buying something we really don't need. Is it better to sell my old Ford and buy a new Prius? Of course, it takes a lot of resources and energy to build that new car. Will I save enough gas to make a difference in the grand scheme of things or am I better off driving my present car until the metal deteriorates into a pile of rust molecules? Of course I'd have to work more to pay for that new car and that would require more energy to keep the lights and heat on at my desk. Not to mention the electricy I'm using right now with my computer. I could ride my bike to work but then I'd have to shower off, for the benefit of my co-workers, and that would take energy to heat the water and launder the towels. I guess it just boils down to deciding to take a moment to look at what we do every day and ask ourselves if it's nessesary. As a great philosopher once said "It's not easy being green".
