I am so glad that I'm not the only one who's sick of the over-protective legislation  intended supposedly to "protect" our kids. This IS the parents job. Kids do get skinned knees, broken bones occasionally, that's all part of testing your limits. Wrap them in bubble wrap, and when they have to enter the real world, it's instant mental collapse. We can only protect so much. Kids have to test their limits, it's what growing up is all about. Forcing "legislation" to do the job that belongs rightly to the parents, is ridiculous. Why not give up all our rights, and have the govt wrap us in bubble wrap also. Then who, if the need comes will lead this country but over-cossetted whining immature fools without a clue. We all need to see how high we can climb in that tree. Parents, guide your own kids, teach them responsibility, if you don't have the time, then don't HAVE them period

Sorry Cheap chick, doing without a cellphone, and keeping to a landline is the foolish way to go. Dump the landline for prepaid cell. On most of them you can call long distance as well as local, and it's far more economical. And as far as cable. How about sitting  around staring at four walls. I don't know too many retirees, or any-one else for that matter,  that finds that enjoyable. What we need is to find a cable system that sells A-la-Carte channels. I for one can only clean house so much and read so many books before looking for something to watch. Granted, there's very little worth watching now-days with so many stupid "Reality" shows. But if the cable companies got their heads on straight and offered channels a-la-carte, there would definitely be an audience. I'm very sick of being forced to pay for 99 channels I don't want to get the 2-3 I do, so I'm letting my cable go. But, I'd be more than happy to pay for a line-up of just the ones I want. Wouldn't you?  Yes, some of the dish services are cheaper, but many places limit or out-right prohibit them, so in a way, some of us have very few choices. Your suggestions should touch with reality a little more.

Well, I do seem to stir up a hornets nest when-ever I set to blogging, but isn't that what it's all about? I cannot agree with "my country right or wrong". What's always set us apart, and kept people struggling to come here, by fair means or foul, is freedom of speech. The knowledge that one can criticize the establishment, and not end up in front of a firing squad. Causing an exchange of opinions, and viewpoints is the very essence of our system. Working within the system, to promote improvement, and positive change, not all ideas are always welcome. We need some serious change now. Our government has become too big, too controlling, too theo-political. The govt is supposed to serve the people, not the other way around, as has been evident over the last few administrations. I have no idea who would be the best for the first office in this country, I only know that, the one we need is probably too ethical to run. As usual, we'll be stuck picking the least of two evils, let's hope our choice will be the right one

Sorry, I can find nothing to celebrate, in a country that tosses older workers aside like used toilet paper. A congress that keeps voting down improvements in Social Security and Medicare. Go for a job interview, you're asked "just what have you been doing for the last three years? LOOKING FOR A JOB YOU IDIOT! Ex-cons can get a job, illegal immigrants can get a job, but I committed the worst crime ever, I got old. I'm not eligible for a job, and because I'm on SS, not eligible for unemployment. Do they really think I need to work because I need a hobby? I mean really, I just want to pay my bills, savethe home I worked for fifty years to get. Then I know of those ike one relative thats sat on her fat rear for 40 years, collected free rent, medical care, food stamps off of MY taxes and never contributed one cent, And I don't qualify for any kind of assistance, sorry, this country sucks big time!

How very nice, in New York, the higher taxes on tobacco have forced many to quit. A nice example of freedom in action. Smokers were, and still are, the only section of society, that one can legally harass, taunt, and discriminate against. Not only that, the price for the medications for quitting are ridiculously high, and hidden so you can't even find them, Nothing like making it twice difficult to quit, even if you want to. Now all are feeling so good that they've removed one more threat to the "common good , "Bull @%&*". As usual, finding something that MAY be harmful to some, gives the rest a reason to prohibit or otherwise restrict that activity. I had to quit myself, because on a fixed income, it is impossible to enjoy the one vice I've always allowed myself. No, it didn't harm my health, being in my own home, I didn't impinge on the rights of others. Compared to alcohol, it is relatively harmless. Why not raise the tax on liquor, make it too expensive to drink and drive, less victims of drunk drivers. Less families wiped out by some idiot with a snoot full. Having too much nicotine isn't going to make one high, and dangerous on the road. Considering how many adults seem to believe it's alright for their kids to drink, maybe it's time for a little legislation there, since it's obvious we can't think for ourselves. We definitely need BIG BROTHER. Any-one for another look at Orwell's 1984? Well, that's where we're heading folks. Like the idea of having every action you make controlled by the govt? We're getting there. Every time we say " the govt should put a stop to this and do something" one more little freedom is removed. It may seem like a small thing at the time of legislation, but, as the rules and restrictions pile up, we'll be shackled by our own actions, or in-actions, as you decide.

Well, what do we do now? McCain, hmmm, he wants to censure Iran. No word on limiting the "war" in Iraq, which looks like it's going to be just another Vietnam, no winners no losers. Talks about change, but seems to be willing to follow the party line. Obama, admittedly a neophyte, but with some new ideas. And what's really wrong with conversing with the leaders of countries we may have an issue with in the future. Laying the groundwork for a future accord, seems to me a positive view. I would much rather make talk than bombs. The old GOP line is to ignore any problems at home, or add a tax to fix it, while you're off creating an unneeded conflict. Vote for McCain, let's see what happens when the next hurricane hits, and all our forces are concentrated overseas again. I believe, that the simple fact that Mr. Obama is so in-experienced means that maybe he WILL try harder to actually solve some of the issues that face the every-day American, like lost jobs due to NAFTA, high energy prices, much needed reform for Social Security (it needs a serious COLA), and unrestricted illegal immigrants. This country is in an economic landslide, maybe he can be the barricade. Our govt has become toothless and wit-less at (ignoring) handling these issues. Washington is still in the 19th century, lets move forward with some positive reforms, and get us back on our feet and standing proud as we should be. It's time we took back our position as a world power to reckon with, not militarily necessarily, but at least economically.

So now we know, as usual, the rich get richer, the poor just get a kick in the a**. Obviously, those in "control" are totally clueless. Those that earned less should have gotten MORE not less. Or, at least, the same amount across the board. Want to know what I think of this administration? READ MY MIND!

Why is a middle class white woman so angry? Well, let's see. NAFTA was passed, companies that moved their jobs overseas received tax breaks. The hard working American worker was left begging for jobs. Bush declared war against those whose politics and religious beliefs were different. The economy is in a non-stop landslide, totally ignored by the Bush administration. Families, mostly hardworking, are losing their homes. Jobs are unavailable. A "Stimulus Rebate" is suppose to fix this, IF we get one, we'll be getting the groceries, meds, and paying up heating bills, not buying extravagant items! I know from experience just how little my vote counts. Ever since the Gore popular win was overturned by the Electoral College, I've known better, let the young ones kid themselves as much as they want, their vote does not count.. Those of us without big incomes, that can't afford to back a candidate, just want to scream. We're frustrated because this is the only voice we have, and no-one listens. Big money has the only voice anyone listens to. The day is long gone, when a young man from a poor family can even dream of being in politics (ie Abraham Lincoln). And no, Obama is not a Lincoln. The anger just grows with the frustration, and you get tired of no-one listening. Now congress wants to cut back on Medicare. I hope they don't have parents that they care about. My generation put men on the moon, fought the Korean war, created much of the electronic toys everyone takes for granted. HELLO! ANYONE LISTENING?

Ok, I filed my taxes for 2007, got my refund by direct deposit, there-fore, according to all the news reports, I should have gotten my rebate already. WHERE IS IT? And I'm not the only one. Now, I find out that those of us who get Social Security, as well as work part time, have to jump through more hoops to qualify. Now a so-called financial advisor says that it's our "duty" to spend what little we've got to boost the economy. BULL S*&T. I can barely afford to put enough gas in the car to get to the store to buy a ridiculously expensive carton of milk to make soup with. I'm not going to run out and buy a diamond ring or mink coat! Obviously, the only ones that have gotten the "stimulus" already are the rich. Not those that acually have worked all their lives. No, sitting in an office and giving orders is not working! Those of us listening to the orders, are the workers. You know, the ones that make the suggestions that you implement and take credit for. Oh, and by the way, I've looked, and can find nothing on what a super delegate is. Thanks for all the non-answers.

Please, will someone please tell me what a super delegate is. I'm sure that I'm not the only one asking this question, but most will be afraid of looking dumb. This is the first year I've heard them mentioned to any extent. The only thing that I'm sure of, is that this political system is not to be trusted, politicians and lawyers are the bottom feeders, and lying is the way to go. Now we have " Super delegates". Where do they come from and why. Thank you in advance for any answer

I want to aim this at those that complain about the Social Security Albatross you'll be carrying during you working years. I carried that very same albatross for 45+ years. The only difference will be the change in the standard of living. You'll pay out more, as we paid out more for each successive generation since it's inception. I am so sick and tired of hearing young kids complain about supporting an aging population. WE RAISED YOU!  We paid for your education, medical bills, fed and clothed you. Are we supposed to just drop dead at the end of our working lives? I'm certainly beginning to think so. Congress wants to cut back on Medicare. Social Security, without a cost of living adjustment, not very secure. Of course, we all know that seniors don't need food, housing, clothing. What  do we need that for. Just sit in the house and knit? There's a  whole generation, full of experience, that no-one wants to hire, because they may be a little more fragile. may have a handicap. "Primitive" populations are so much wiser than so-called civilized polulations. They have the older generation teach the younger, which is the way it should be. Many companies are missing out on knowledge, experience, expertise because of out-dated assumptions. We're not all "set in our ways", or unteachable. Nor does a mild handicap keep us use-less. Oh, what the ^%*&, why should I care, I don't. I'd just like a job, and am tired of being passed over, by-passed, ignored, and ridiculed, for being too old. I actually worked on the space program, now I'm not good enough to wash the floor. Well, I'll wash mine, you'rs can stay dirty for all I care.

Well, not that any-one will listen, but here's my take on this whole stupid election. McCain lost any hope of my vote when he voted against equal pay for women. As far as the other over-fed swine in the running, when one of them comes up with a COLA for those of us on social security, that one has my vote! Groceries are going sky high, my mortgage isn't getting any cheaper, neither are my prescriptions. The price of fuel isn't going to stop rising any time soon. But my pension doesn't rise, neither does my so-called social security. The candidate that actually addresses these issues, will get a following, not the one with the right religion, or ethnic background. Sure I saved, but the jack-a-napes investment counselor conned us into investing into a company that went bankrupt, and left 800 employees without retirement savings. So, I don't want to hear word one on that. Getting a job is out of the question, since no-on will hire, regardless of the law, some-one over 60, and handicapped. So give me a candidate that can come up with some solutions to this economic land-slide, something better than that joke of an "Economic-stimulus", mess that Bush tossed at us, like telling us to go and eat cake. He cost us, in our tax dollars, approx. 34 million, for something that won't be any more than a drop in a tsunami. Yes, I'm angry, furious, and frustrated. I worked my butt off for 45 years for this. I will not vote for a posturing, over-fed, self-rightious fool, that just makes promises to get votes

If her crimes had been committed yesterday, how would everybody feel about it. She was convicted of murder, and  terrorism (in essence). She was only given fourteen years. That's a slap in the face to the parents and family of the young woman she killed. To only have to serve six years is a crime in itself. I don't care how nice she was while in hiding. Did anyone really think she was in a hurry to call excess attention to herself? Even the most hardened monster can act like a saint long enough to fool many. She deserves to spend the remainder of her sentence in prison. I can't feel sorry for those who were taken in by her actions. They should feel anger at being duped, she is a criminal, not a victim!

Gosh, WOW!!!! I just received the first of two informational letters informing dumb old me about how the rebate will work. Wonder how much was spent to think up, print, sort and mail all this unnecessary paper. Nice to know our elected leaders have such a high opinion of our intellect. Not that it hasn't received steady news coverage since day one. All the first letter really told me is that there will be another letter coming to inform me. I mean really folks, can you possibly come up with a better way to throw taxpayer money away. Our infrastructure is crumbling, now two of our bridges are closed, one indefinitely, Our public transit system is a joke, traffic is at a standstill.  Jobs are non-existent, they left for overseas. Maybe we should follow. That's one way to avoid taxes. Follow the jobs.

The more that I consider this so-called economic stimulus package, the more I wonder what they're thinking of. The average citizen ( those making less then 75k a year ) will be using it to get caught up on past due bills, stock up on groceries, and generally getting even. Buying expensive toys, or even replacing certain items will be held off. Until someone gets smart, rescinds the NAFTA bill, and brings our jobs home. Try rewarding those companies that keep their jobs here with those tax cuts, thereby opening up jobs to our own citizens. Try considering rewarding companies that go green, as well as keeping the jobs here. Listen to the scientists, they are warning you of what is here already, as well as things to come. The citizenry is getting more and more educated, it's time we had a president that followed suit. Mr. Bush made it clear at his inauguration, that the whole country had to believe the way he did. We don't need this. We need a leader with the education to lead us in this new time, of technology, ecological change, and medical advances. We need to get out of the dark ages, and see what we've done to our environment, and ourselves. Yes, some if not most, of the advances are wonderful. But as in everything, in moderation. We've got to get up off our butts, step away from the video games, TVs, PCs, and move, move, shed some lard, intellectually as well as physically. We'd all feel better, think better, and live longer. Try not to be afraid of tomorrow, with the right leader, one that can see and accept reality, the future could be very bright.

I'm a older adult, who loves cats, and tolerates differences, just don't push them in my face. I'm into electronics, good books, music. Mainly Swing and classical and classic jazz, though I have been known to lend an ear to Elvis, and Buddy Holly:). I must admit that I'm an agnostic, extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof. And I require proof. My main specialty is computer circuitry. Mostly building and inspecting it, now I'm having the fun of using it, and learning more every day. From staring through a 20 power scope at a microscopic unit, to blogging. How 'bout that.
