Bail-out

News
Am I the only one that has a problem with the fact that the public, many whom are already being smothered by high taxes, high prices, etc., are expected to bail-out the over-paid, over-fed investment executives? And without even the chance to vote on it? This will genuinely be taxation without representation! With the outrageous price of food, fuel, school tuition and supplies, high medical costs. The average family doesn't need any more. If this is going to have a chance to fly with the public, the gov't itself is going to have to tighten it's own belts for a change. Cut some of the pork-barrel spending. Ask the oil companies, you know, the ones the gov't has been getting all those kick-backs from, who had billions in profit the past year, ask them to kick in. Bring our guys and gals home from Iraq. And cut military spending. This is voted in by congress, then those that sponsored it, won't be in office the next time around.
Volunters

I too applaud the volunteers helping with the victims of Ike. But if many of these fools had heeded the warnings, and gotten out when they had the chance. There would be less having to put their lives at risk to rescue fools that refused to listen. When you put your own lives in jeopardy, then expect others to nearly kill themselves to rescue you, don't whine when they can't ge there fast enough to suit you. There was plenty of warning, and no excuse for ignoring those warnings
News and sensationalism

It has become obvious that Fox 9 has passed on good taste, and veers into sensationalism. First with the video of the abused cattle a few months ago, now with the sickening video on that pig farm. REPORT the news yes, but like most other local stations, show some good taste. Pass on the sickening videos, else this is one FORMER viewer.

I am so glad that I'm not the only one who's sick of the over-protective legislation intended supposedly to "protect" our kids. This IS the parents job. Kids do get skinned knees, broken bones occasionally, that's all part of testing your limits. Wrap them in bubble wrap, and when they have to enter the real world, it's instant mental collapse. We can only protect so much. Kids have to test their limits, it's what growing up is all about. Forcing "legislation" to do the job that belongs rightly to the parents, is ridiculous. Why not give up all our rights, and have the govt wrap us in bubble wrap also. Then who, if the need comes will lead this country but over-cossetted whining immature fools without a clue. We all need to see how high we can climb in that tree. Parents, guide your own kids, teach them responsibility, if you don't have the time, then don't HAVE them period
Cheap Chick

Sorry Cheap chick, doing without a cellphone, and keeping to a landline is the foolish way to go. Dump the landline for prepaid cell. On most of them you can call long distance as well as local, and it's far more economical. And as far as cable. How about sitting around staring at four walls. I don't know too many retirees, or any-one else for that matter, that finds that enjoyable. What we need is to find a cable system that sells A-la-Carte channels. I for one can only clean house so much and read so many books before looking for something to watch. Granted, there's very little worth watching now-days with so many stupid "Reality" shows. But if the cable companies got their heads on straight and offered channels a-la-carte, there would definitely be an audience. I'm very sick of being forced to pay for 99 channels I don't want to get the 2-3 I do, so I'm letting my cable go. But, I'd be more than happy to pay for a line-up of just the ones I want. Wouldn't you? Yes, some of the dish services are cheaper, but many places limit or out-right prohibit them, so in a way, some of us have very few choices. Your suggestions should touch with reality a little more.

Well, I do seem to stir up a hornets nest when-ever I set to blogging, but isn't that what it's all about? I cannot agree with "my country right or wrong". What's always set us apart, and kept people struggling to come here, by fair means or foul, is freedom of speech. The knowledge that one can criticize the establishment, and not end up in front of a firing squad. Causing an exchange of opinions, and viewpoints is the very essence of our system. Working within the system, to promote improvement, and positive change, not all ideas are always welcome. We need some serious change now. Our government has become too big, too controlling, too theo-political. The govt is supposed to serve the people, not the other way around, as has been evident over the last few administrations. I have no idea who would be the best for the first office in this country, I only know that, the one we need is probably too ethical to run. As usual, we'll be stuck picking the least of two evils, let's hope our choice will be the right one
Celebrate the fourth?

Sorry, I can find nothing to celebrate, in a country that tosses older workers aside like used toilet paper. A congress that keeps voting down improvements in Social Security and Medicare. Go for a job interview, you're asked "just what have you been doing for the last three years? LOOKING FOR A JOB YOU IDIOT! Ex-cons can get a job, illegal immigrants can get a job, but I committed the worst crime ever, I got old. I'm not eligible for a job, and because I'm on SS, not eligible for unemployment. Do they really think I need to work because I need a hobby? I mean really, I just want to pay my bills, savethe home I worked for fifty years to get. Then I know of those ike one relative thats sat on her fat rear for 40 years, collected free rent, medical care, food stamps off of MY taxes and never contributed one cent, And I don't qualify for any kind of assistance, sorry, this country sucks big time!
Smoking and taxes

How very nice, in New York, the higher taxes on tobacco have forced many to quit. A nice example of freedom in action. Smokers were, and still are, the only section of society, that one can legally harass, taunt, and discriminate against. Not only that, the price for the medications for quitting are ridiculously high, and hidden so you can't even find them, Nothing like making it twice difficult to quit, even if you want to. Now all are feeling so good that they've removed one more threat to the "common good , "Bull @%&*". As usual, finding something that MAY be harmful to some, gives the rest a reason to prohibit or otherwise restrict that activity. I had to quit myself, because on a fixed income, it is impossible to enjoy the one vice I've always allowed myself. No, it didn't harm my health, being in my own home, I didn't impinge on the rights of others. Compared to alcohol, it is relatively harmless. Why not raise the tax on liquor, make it too expensive to drink and drive, less victims of drunk drivers. Less families wiped out by some idiot with a snoot full. Having too much nicotine isn't going to make one high, and dangerous on the road. Considering how many adults seem to believe it's alright for their kids to drink, maybe it's time for a little legislation there, since it's obvious we can't think for ourselves. We definitely need BIG BROTHER. Any-one for another look at Orwell's 1984? Well, that's where we're heading folks. Like the idea of having every action you make controlled by the govt? We're getting there. Every time we say " the govt should put a stop to this and do something" one more little freedom is removed. It may seem like a small thing at the time of legislation, but, as the rules and restrictions pile up, we'll be shackled by our own actions, or in-actions, as you decide.

If her crimes had been committed yesterday, how would everybody feel about it. She was convicted of murder, and terrorism (in essence). She was only given fourteen years. That's a slap in the face to the parents and family of the young woman she killed. To only have to serve six years is a crime in itself. I don't care how nice she was while in hiding. Did anyone really think she was in a hurry to call excess attention to herself? Even the most hardened monster can act like a saint long enough to fool many. She deserves to spend the remainder of her sentence in prison. I can't feel sorry for those who were taken in by her actions. They should feel anger at being duped, she is a criminal, not a victim!
Economic Stimulus

The more that I consider this so-called economic stimulus package, the more I wonder what they're thinking of. The average citizen ( those making less then 75k a year ) will be using it to get caught up on past due bills, stock up on groceries, and generally getting even. Buying expensive toys, or even replacing certain items will be held off. Until someone gets smart, rescinds the NAFTA bill, and brings our jobs home. Try rewarding those companies that keep their jobs here with those tax cuts, thereby opening up jobs to our own citizens. Try considering rewarding companies that go green, as well as keeping the jobs here. Listen to the scientists, they are warning you of what is here already, as well as things to come. The citizenry is getting more and more educated, it's time we had a president that followed suit. Mr. Bush made it clear at his inauguration, that the whole country had to believe the way he did. We don't need this. We need a leader with the education to lead us in this new time, of technology, ecological change, and medical advances. We need to get out of the dark ages, and see what we've done to our environment, and ourselves. Yes, some if not most, of the advances are wonderful. But as in everything, in moderation. We've got to get up off our butts, step away from the video games, TVs, PCs, and move, move, shed some lard, intellectually as well as physically. We'd all feel better, think better, and live longer. Try not to be afraid of tomorrow, with the right leader, one that can see and accept reality, the future could be very bright.
Phishing

Please, please, don't fall for these scams. I've been the target of a number of phishing attempts over the past few months, and only by being a complete sceptic, have I avoided being ruined financially by these creeps. Most of them operated from Nigeria, yes, but some from other middle eastern, and African countries. But in nearly every case, they have a supposed return postal address in the UK. They stand out because their grammar and spelling are usually very poor. Since they are pretending, usually, to be legal representatives of this or that person or company in the UK, their english should be perfect. In one of the attacks that I played along with for awhile, they wanted proof of citizenship, bank account info. etc., Then, as has happened to others, they would have cleaned out what little I had in what-ever accounts I gave them numbers for. The aforementioned attack was in the name of Microsoft Inc. supposedly located in the UK, of course I knew better. Any-one, whether you live in a mansion, or a second floor walk-up can be a target if you have an e-mail address. IF IT SOUNDS TO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT IS!
Opinions

We all have opinions, based either on experience, or something we've witnessed. We all have a right to express those opinions without being called names. Sadly, those who resort to name-calling in rebuttal are only showing their immaturity, and ignorance. I for one, love all animals, and hold no animosity to any ethnic group. But unfortunately, there are some animals that are not meant to be pets. I too am disgusted by the type of person that abuses animals. These types are statistically more likely to abuse children and other adults. I've volunteered with animal shelters, and know the problems they have to deal with. Those who need to resort to name-calling, should wait until they grow up to enter a community blog, lest they embarrass themselves unnecessarily. By the way, I recommend reading an entire blog, instead of taking things out of context.
Illegal immigrants

So, Somebody please explain to me why our dislike of Mexican illegal immigrants is prejudice. Ms. Morales, who murdered four students on that school bus she hit and forced onto its' side, just brings to the fore the base for our dislike of this practice. This was not the first incidence for her, and not uncommon for Mexican illegals. They constantly drive with no insurance, no license, and complete disregard for the law, and other motorists. WE DON'T WANT YOU HERE, COME HERE LEGALLY AND YOU WILL BE WELCOME! OTHERWISE, STAY WHERE YOU ARE! You are more than welcome here if you arrive legally, just like all others, including my parents for example, and work to earn your rights. But, illegals are just a good reason to close the borders completely. Allow no more, period. AND DO US THE COURTESY OF LEARNING THE LANGUAGE, THIS IS NOT A MEXICAN SUBURB. WE SPEAK ENGLISH HERE! I used to be very tolerant, but that is disappearing very fast, My mother and grandmother had to work very hard to fit in and earn their way, but they did it LEGALLY. When did you become better then the rest of us who actually belong here.

The main problem with creeps like this, is, they make it very difficult for those of us that are genuinly struggling. I can think of no way nasty enough to punish this type of useless thief, which is exactly what they are. Publish their faces, names, statistics, shun them, as used to be done before political correctness, took away our right of free speech.

I have tried to understand this type of mind and can't. I'll only say, WHEN she's convicted of murder, she should be put in the open population of any federal penitentiary. My mind can't grasp why she wasn't stopped sooner, she had a record, was known as an abuser. How could this boys father allow this, granted he'd been arrested, but he would still have some say. At least I know that in the open pop. in prison, she'd pay in full for what she did to an innocent child.
